Juneteenth is the holiday that commemorates the day slaves in Texas learned that they were free.

President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation two years before Juneteenth ever occurred. Juneteenth is one of the most popular holidays celebrated among the African American community, and it has gained a resurgence of support as the race tensions rose last summer.

This Juneteenth, Neighborhood Laundromat and the Salaam Wellness Center will host a Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 19th to celebrate our freedom and the transformation of the 600 East Block of 67th St. from 2-5 p.m.

Join D.J. Wayne Williams of the “Chosen Few” for the best music, with House Music’ . IMPACT Family Center will bring the fun with games for the family, basketball, volleyball and health & wellness info.

This annual event will highlight positive aspects of West Woodlawn as we continue to improve life for youth, families, and seniors.
